Visual identity
Other boys
NYC
—
Other Boys NYC is a documentary series that explores the diverse experiences of queer men of color in New York City. Each episode will showcase a new subject and a new experience and will look at a person's life experience on a smaller, micro-level. Each video will be a short and honest interview. Subjects can feel free to share anything, from their deepest, darkest secret to an unpopular opinion. It's all about speaking to your experience and having a platform to share your point of view.
I developed the visuals and brand identity to help the co-creators promote the documentary series, the final deliverables of this project include logo, poster, digital banners, and social media templates.
Logo + Visuals
—
I created a bold but simple logo approach including an element within the logo that reflects something that doesn't belong here. The "O" that's barely visible is a statement that symbolizes the marginalization of POC in the social environment we live in today.
The logo was a reflection of the experiences of queer men of color not feeling they belong in our society.
Portraits
—
Visually, I decide to use strong duotone color portraits as the empowerment of the rich diversity of queer men of color. I wanted to create a bold and energetic look that highlights and celebrates the uniqueness of each member of this documentary.
Posters
—
I created a series of posters showcasing members of the documentary and half of their faces representing the limited or lack of representation of stories from queen people of color. Additionally, using phrases such as “no black, no Latino, no Asian” to bring awareness and as a reminder queer men of color experience marginalization and discrimination.
The Experience
—
The exposure from a documentary like this will help the community see the reality and hardships faced by each person interviewed, and hopefully, it will spark conversations about how to embrace diversity, understand, and celebrate queer men of color.
I am so proud of my friends Abdool and Adam for putting this project together and grateful for the opportunity to contribute my design skills.
OBNYC will inspire young QPOC to embrace their identity and find stories or experiences they can relate to. There is still much work to be done, but I am glad to be part of amplifying queer people of color's stories to the world.
